Cowlitz County Democrats Announce Official Endorsements
The Cowlitz County Democrats held their monthly meeting September 8th at the Catlin Community Center. Here, the membership voted on endorsements for local candidates. Four candidates applied for endorsement from us, and we have proudly offered our support and official endorsement to all four.
For those of you not familiar with them, they are:
Mike Claxton (Longview City Council Position 5): As an estate attorney, Mike is a numbers guy. He’s a runner, a husband, father, and grandfather. He will bring a pragmatic approach to governance that Longview desperately needs.
Oliver Black (Longview City Council Position 6): Oliver is the youngest of the four candidates we’re supporting, but as chair of the Longview Parks & Rec department, he also has the most experience in the local government. He is a man with a good head and a good heart, who has a vision for a more beautiful and prosperous city.
Wayne Nichols (Longview City Council Position 7): Wayne is the sort of man who makes friends with everyone he meets. He’s a renaissance man who’s been a labor leader, an actor, a credit union board member, a CASA - you name it, Wayne’s done it here in his 60 years in Longview. He is a mature, responsible man who will bring a much-needed change to position 7 when he unseats Boudreau.
Susan Donahue (Longview School Board): Almost everyone you speak to about Susan will say “Oh, Ms. Donahue!” A beloved local teacher for 37 years (32 in Longview, 5 in PDX), Susan has the passion for public education that we need on the Longview School Board. Her opponent is another anti-public education MAGA, so it’s vital that we elect Susan!
Our official endorsement page is located here. Feel free to share it around with anyone who might need to know.
As it stands, there are 4 MAGA extremists on the city council and 3 Democrat-friendly councilors (two of whom are retiring). We must replace the two retiring councilors with Mike Claxton and Oliver Black to keep the balance as it is. But if Wayne Nichols can defeat Spencer Boudreau, we can change the balance in Longview. That would mean a return to mature, responsible government in our city and an end to the circus we’ve been living with. That’s why it’s vital that all liberals, progressives, moderates, and even decent Republicans come together to elect these four candidates. Keep our school board staffed with people who care about our children and their education, and turn the city council blue!
