Bridging the Divide: Free Workshop on Rural-Urban Polarization

Why Do Rural Communities Feel Left Behind?

In today’s political climate, the divide between rural and urban America is more than just geography—it’s a growing chasm of misunderstanding, mistrust, and missed opportunities. While race and class are critical components of our national polarization, the rural-urban divide remains one of the most talked about yet least understood dynamics shaping our democracy.

Many urban progressives ask, “Why do rural voters go against their own self-interests?” But what if that's the wrong question? What if the real issue is that many rural Americans feel dismissed—seen not as partners in progress, but as obstacles to it?

A Workshop to Rethink the Divide

On Thursday, September 4 at 6pm, the Cowlitz County Democrats invite you to a powerful virtual event:

“Understanding and Overcoming the Rural-Urban Divide”, hosted by the Rural Urban Bridge Initiative (RUBI).

This acclaimed two-part presentation and discussion will unpack the roots of rural-urban polarization and offer practical strategies for building trust, communicating across cultural lines, and advancing progressive values in rural communities.

Tickets are free and open to all.
